"Oh no, is there any reason why you were climbing out your window?" asked Robin as Mina got into his car. "Um no reason," lied Mina. "I don't believe that in a second. If I guess right it has to do with a certain father or yours," said Robin. Mina looked at Robin thoughtfully. He looked so laid back and calm. His dark blonde hair fell into his eyes giving him a mischievous look. "Yeah, so start driving," commanded Mina. Robin shrugged and started the car. "So I guess I didn't make such a good impression on your Dad, huh?" asked Robin. "It's not that. Well maybe it is. Mom loved you. She told me this morning. But it's all Julie's fault. She is always trying to get me into trouble," explained Mina. "That's ok. When I bring you home. Maybe I can talk with your parents," said Robin giving her a heart-melting smile. "I doubt that will help," grumbled Mina. "You can surprised," Robin said. 'Maybe I will be,' thought Mina with a smile. There was a beeping and Mina let out a groan as she pulled out her communicator. "Hey V," said Serena who appeared on the screen. "So sorry but I got like totally busted," she said and Luna appeared on the screen beside her. "You are going to have a lot of explaining to do young lady," said Luna. "You sound just like my mother!" retorted Mina. "You know you aren't supposed to use the crystal for non scout business," scolded Luna. Mina turned off the screen and shoved her communicator in her pocket. She was defiantly going to get busted when she got home. The car pulled up to a blue beach house. Several cars were already parked in the driveway. "Its family night. So there's going to be a lot of people in the house. Don't worry though, they're a great bunch," said Robin with a smile. Robin opened the door and the shouts of several people greeted them. "How'd you get such a pretty girl to date you, Rob?" shouted out a young man in his mid twenties. "Everyone this is Mina," introduced Robin to a group of 15 people. "So glad to have here," said a woman who hugged Mina. "This is my Aunt Diana. There is my Uncle Patrick. My grandmother and my grandfather are over there. The one with the big mouth is my cousin, Eric. And of course you know, Dina. You will probably learn every one else's name later," said Robin. Mina had never felt so overwhelmed in her life as many people came to greet her at once. "I have never seen such a big family," said Mina with a laugh. "This isn't all of us. My family is still over in the United States," said Robin. "Is anyone else in your family deaf?" asked Mina. "Nope. Just me and Dina, but everyone is fluent in sign language because of Dina. She is still learning English," explained Robin with a grin. Dinner was an extraordinary event. English, Japanese and Sign language were all being spoken at once. Robin did most of the interpreting so as to not make Mina feel uncomfortable. As the dishes were being cleared away, Dina came up and signed something to Mina. "She says you look like Sailor V from the video games," interpreted Robin. "When I live in England I posed for Sailor V," explained Mina. "She says you are prettier then Sailor V and asks so why are you dating me?" translated Robin with a grin. Now that question took Mina by surprise. She blushed as she fingerspelled "I l-o-v-e h-I-m." Robin grinned. Robin signed something to Dina who giggled and ran off. "What did you tell her?" asked Mina. "To stop being so nosy," said Robin with a grin. "Come on," he motioned and she followed him out of the house. Waves crashed gently on the sandy beach. Moonlight shone over the water making the scene in front of her enchanting. "This place is beautiful," said Mina with a sigh. "You are too," replied Robin. Mina blushed uncontrollably. "I love the ocean. I mean the sea is so majestic and powerful but it can be so calming also. Robin, do you miss being able to hear things like waves?" asked Mina seriously. "Not really. I lost my hearing at five. At first it was very difficult but it's just a way of life," said Robin. Then there was silence as both of them sat on the sand watching the waves crash on the shore. "There is a poem I love called Our Deafness. There is a verse in it that goes like this, Cannot hear the oceans; Waves beating on the shore, We only see them crashing foreword, then retreating," Robin said quietly. "Can you tell me all of it?" asked Mina. Our Deafness We can not hear anything at all Because we are deaf... Cannot hear voices We only see their mouths moving... Cannot hear our own voices, We only feel it in our throats... Cannot hear laughter, We only see it in their faces Cannot hear the sound of playing, We only see other people play... Cannot hear screams We only see their mouths open or The startled reactions of those around them Cannot hear weeping, We only see their tear stained cheeks Cannot hear the scolding, We only see it in their scowling faces and scolding hands Shaking up and down in our faces... Cannot hear the love and peace in voices of beloved ones, We only see love and peace on their faces... Cannot hear our names being announced being announced, We only know if our friends, family or interpreter informs us... Cannot hear the beat of music We only feel the vibrations... Cannot hear wind whistling through the trees, We only see the leaves moving and the trees swaying... Cannot hear oceans: waves beating upon shores, We only see them crashing, then retreating... Cannot hear footsteps in the darkness, We only feel them... Cannot hear the hum of machines around us We only feel them when we put our hands upon them... Cannot hear the television, We only read the words on the screen with the help of closed captions... Cannot hear the sounds the seasons bring to us We only see the changes the seasons bring to us... The list can only be endless... Hearing people's world is filled with sounds... Our world is filled with sight and vibrations They think we are missing out on sounds... We think they are missing out on the sights and vibrations The take for granted We will never be able to hear even if hearing people put their mouth to our ears And screamed down into them But we hear one golden sound - Silence Kimberly Richards "That was beautiful. I can understand why it is your favorite," said Mina. "That's my world. Mina I am not missing out on anything. No matter what most people think," said Robin. "I believe it. You an incredible person, Robin," said Mina as she snuggled up to him. He wrapped his arm around her and held her tightly. "Mina, watch," commanded Robin. He held out his right hand with his palm facing forward and he extended his thumb, index finger and little finger. "What does that mean?" asked Mina. "Mina, this means I love you," said Robin. Mina copied the sign. Robin kissed her tenderly on the mouth. Such a beautiful sentence expressed by 2 people without saying a thing. Both felt that simple sign was the only thing that needed to be said. Wanted: A person who will let me post all of my work on their web page.
