The End of Innocence Chapter Six by Bunny ~*~Serena’s P.O.V.~*~ I felt his lips meet mine and I knew I had come home. Finally I had found where I belonged. Our kisses grew faster and more urgent, like summer lightning was flickering through our bodies. Our hearts beat in unison. As all good things must inevitably do, our kiss came to an end. We sat there, staring into each other’s eyes, panting. Blue eyes on blue, and there was nothing in this world except Darien. He ran his fingers through my hair and I sighed, letting my head rest in his capable hands. *If only . . . if only we could be like this forever . . .* We stood up quietly and I glanced down, suddenly shy. He raised my chin to look at him. “We can’t tell the others, you know.” “I know,” I said sadly. He leaned over and gave me a hard kiss on the mouth and then . . . then he was gone. ~*~Raye’s P.O.V.~*~ I stood in the shadows of the great oak trees, my silence and deep thought making me feel almost one with the tall souls of the ancient oaks. I could feel it coursing around me, something was building in the air, the alignment of planets was coming soon and it didn’t look good for us. An evil shadow was descending upon our district and once unleashed nothing would ever be the same. It was a sobering though and I was glad when I spotted my target. I followed her out the door and glanced up at a tree and waved. ~*~ Lita’s P.O.V. ~*~ *I hate trees . . .* I had been sitting in a tree for two and a half hours. I had spotted Darien walk out and notified his tail and then Serena stepped out, looking pissed. I saw Raye come out of the shadows and follow her and I almost fell out of the three when she looked directly at me and waved. “Amy, anything?” “He’s walking around with a dumb look on his face,” Amy’s voice crackled. “Adjust your mike, you’re breaking.” “Right.” “Raye just waved at me,” I said calmly. “What are you doing on the ground?!” “I was in the tree.” “Then she knows?” “I think so, she’s following Serena.” “Crap!” Amy’s voice cracked again. “I’m following them. I got them on a tracker and they are both heading --” “-- to Darien’s apartment!” Amy exclaimed. “Meet me there?” “You bet.” ~*~Serena’s P.O.V.~*~ I was walking around in a daze. I had no idea where I was going, yet I knew I was going home again. I looked around at my surroundings kind of surprisedly and found out I was standing in front of Darien’s apartment building. I felt something hit my head and I reached up to pull the soft rose petal out of my hair. I brought it up to my nose and inhaled it’s sweet, sweet fragrance. I lifted my hand just in time to catch the thronless rose that followed. *Must be fate. It seems we are meant to be something to one another.* “I wish I knew,” I whispered to myself. I walked in through the double doors and stepped into the elevator. ~*~Darien’s P.O.V.~*~ I was standing outside on the balcony, staring at the moon, and twirling a rose between my fingers. *It’s hopeless, there is no way she could like me, she thought I was someone else.* I let the rose fall and I went inside. I grabbed my coat, zipped it up and opened the door my eyes were downcast as I pulled one hand from my coat pockets to shut the door when I heard a clear sweet voice say, “I’ll get that.” I looked up and to my astonishment Serena stood there, not smiling, yet not angry. Peaceful, somehow. “We need to talk,” she said. I nodded. ~*~ Andrew’s P.O.V.~*~ I was walking up to Darien’s apartment to beat the crap out of him again when I saw him and Serena walking and slowly swinging their linked hands in between them. I dived into the bushes when I saw them so that they wouldn’t see me. I pulled down the microphone on my ear piece. “Amy, can you read me?” “This is Amy, got you loud and clear. Over.” “Serena and Darien just left his apartment, holding hands. Over.” “Really, I’ve got their location on my tracker and I’ll see which one of field agents can tail them. Over.” “Right, Andrew over and out.” “10-4.” ~*~Serena’s P.O.V.~*~ I peeked at Darien out of the corner of my eyes as we walked through the park. Every now and then I would see him glance back at me and I would quickly look away. “Darien. . .” I said. “Yes?” “What’s happening here?” “What do you mean?” “I feel that our destinies are being controlled by something supernatural, more mysterious.” We both stopped and tipped our heads backword and glanced at the moon, round and silvery in the sky. “I know the way you feel. Us being together seems unreal somehow and I’m not quite sure why we are together.” “It feels so right.” “I know.” Darien drew me into his arms and once again I came home I stood on my tiptoes as he bent over and our lips met somewhere inbetween. There was a crack of lightning and then the skies opened up in a downpour of rain and we stood underneath the moon and the stars that peeked out between the clouds and kissed. It was as if we were kissing away all the sorrow, and the lonliness that had hurt us in the past. We kissed away our past, looking only to the future. And even though I was so happy, something inside me was crying, something told me that our time was fleeting and we would not be together forever. And you couldn’t tell where the tears stopped and the rain began. Seconds or eternities later we parted and he looked helplessly at me. We were both breathing hard and I reached up and brushed a wet lock of hair away from his face. I stared into his sapphire eyes and I smiled. He smiled back and then glanced at my bruised lips. “Oh, Serena . . . we shouldn’t . . . we can’t . . .” he started to pull away. “We already have.” I said and pulled his mouth down to mine. Summer lightning flickered throughout our bodies as we kissed, desperately, hungrily. We both knew our time was fleeting and we were kissing away all our fears and desperation. I was so caught up I couldn’t breathe, and to my surprise I found I didn’t miss breathing at all. We parted, panting for breath again and I clung to him, trying to merge with him so we would never have to part. “Oh, Darien,” I whispered. “We have to get you home,” he said with a smile in his eyes. We walked through the park to his apartment and he led me upstairs. He pointed out a bathroom and I entered it. While inside I combed my hair and dried off a little and came out shivering. Darien stood by the window and he pointed towards a deep velvet cloak on his desk chair. “You might want to put that on.” I pulled that black cloak around myself and it fell to the floor. It had a hood which my pale hair spilled out on. “I don’t know what’s happening but all I know is, Serena, when I’m with you, nothing else matters.” Darien looked up at me and I didn’t speak a word. I knew my eyes were shining with unshed tears of happiness and I sniffed and blinked, causing an overflow. “We really have to get you home now,” he said and smiled at me. Darien walked me to my house and gave me one last kiss before he took my key and unlocked the door for me and then when I stepped inside and locked it he walked off, whistling happily. I leaned against the back of the door with a sigh. When I opened my eyes I saw my mom standing before me with an understanding look upon her face. “Bring him home soon,” she said as she took my arm and began leading me upstairs. She sat on my bed as I ducked into the bathroom to change. “What’s his name, Serena?” “Darien,” I sighed. My mother laughed. “What?” “Does ‘Darien’(she imitated me) have a last name?” I giggled. “Darien Chiba. He’s so cute! And mom?” I said, coming out to my room in my pink pajamas and sitting next to her on the bed. “Yes?” “I love him,” I said and leaned my head against her shoulder. “I know. He seems very nice.” “Oh he is!” “Goodnight, Serena,” she said with a smile. “‘Night, Mom. I love you.” “I love you, too.” My mom closed the door and I turned over and snuggled into my pillow to dream about Darien. Author’s Ending Note: I have to end this. I’m sick! Wahhh! Oh well!
