BROKEN HEARTS Chapter Five Sapphir opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. Why? He asked himself. There was a knock on his door which he answered. You could ignore someone calling on the phone but not at your door. Sapphir opened the door to see Usagi standing there. “What do you want?” he asked rudely. “To apologize, Sapphir,” she said timidly. “I don’t want your apology or your company, Usagi,” Sapphir growled and slammed the door in the startled girl’s face. Usagi stared at the wooden door that almost hit her nose and ran away crying. The first person she ran into was Mamoru. “Usako? What’s wrong?” he asked grabbing her shoulders. “Oh, Mamo-chan!” she cried and sobbed out the whole story. Sapphir stepped out onto his balcony. The sun was starting to set and the planet Venus blazed in the sky. As he stared at the planet he could almost see her looking down at him. “Oh, Minako,” he whispered. “What did you think you were doing to Usagi, Sapphir?!”a harsh voice demanded. “Go away, Mamoru, I have no inclination to talk to you, either.” “Yeah? Well you better listen then. When Usagi came from here was crying. Minako was her best friend, imagine how she feels.” “Imagine how *she* feels? What about me?! Minako was my love.” “They had known each other forever and were closer than any of the others.” “Yeah, well she really showed it, too,” Sapphir said sarcastically. “I always kill my best friends to show them I care.” The air flickered and then Minako appeared. “Minako,” Sapphir whispered and stumbled. Minako walked to him and put her arms around him. “Oh, Sapphir, I’ve missed you so much!” she cried. “Mina-chan . . .” he whispered. Minako then turned towards Mamoru. “Tell Usagi-chan, I do not blame her. She is still my best friend, Mamoru-sama.” “I will tell her,” Mamoru promised. “I must go now,” she said brokenly. “No!” Sapphir cried. “I must!” Minako said, sounding frightened. “I . . . I love you, Sapphir!” she cried as she was pulled away. They could hear her blood-curdling scream. “We’ve got to rescue her!” Sapphir said to Mamoru. “Yes, I’ll tell the girls. Meet us at the temple at midnight.” “Great Fire,” Rei said, “Tell us what is happening to Minako.” The fire flickered and showed a dirty, ragged Minako running down an endless hall of mirrors. Inside the mirrors were reflections of her evil self. “Can I talk to her?” Sapphir asked. “I have been working on my powers,” Rei said. “I can send you, mentally, to talk to her.” “I wish to go.” “Then so let it be.” Sapphir felt himself materialize in a dark room. “Sapphir!” Minako cried. “What are you doing here?” He did not answer. He stared at her lustrius golden blonde hair, her jewel blue eyes, and her lips parted like rose petals. “You’ve got to get out of here!” she said. “He’ll get you!” “Who?! Minako, I’ll protect you!” “You can’t! He’s too strong!” They heard an evil laughter in the background. “He’s here! Oh, Sapphir! You’ve go to leave!” “Want to see how pretty your love is now?” Sapphir turned towards Minako. Her hair and skin were dropping off in clumps. “It’s all an illusion! It’s not real!” Sapphir grabbed her rotting shoulder and kissed her. As he kissed her he could feel her hair and skin coming back. When he opened his eyes he looked into her jewel blue eyes shining with love. “You still can’t have her!” “Let her go!” Sapphir demanded. “Oh little boy blue has a backbone.” A man stepped into the light. “What do you want?!” Sapphir demanded. “What I own.” “Who are you?!” “Surely, you know of me. I am Ace. Has my little Venus not told you about me?” Sapphir looked at Minako. “On Venus during the Silver Millennium Ace was Adonis a soldier in Endymion’s army. He loved me. When I was Sailor V in England. I met him as Kaitou Ace, he saved me. But he was really evil. He cursed me to never find my true love. When I found you the curse came into effect. “For you to live, I must stay with him.” “Not for me! I don’t want you to do this for me!” Sapphir cried. “She has made her choice. Now get out before I destroy you!” Ace cried. “Leave, Sapphir!” Minako yelled and concentrated sending a message to Rei. “Get him out of here!” she thought to Rei who wuickly complied. Sapphir disappeared and reappeared in the Fire Room. “What happened?” Rei demanded. “Ace.” “Not him again!” Usagi yelled. “She said the for me to live she must remain with him!” “And you can’t change her mind?” “Usagi, you all of people should know that,” Sapphir said with a half smile. “We have to go and save her. I cannot rest knowing we did nothing again.” Author’s Ending Note: So?!?!?!?!?!? What do you think?
